The goal is clear: the results of the project to investigate accident clusters are intended to increase traffic safety at critical road locations.

At yesterday’s meeting of the city senate, the project was given the green light; the analysis is being carried out by the interdisciplinary, non-profit Epigus Institute. This deals with holistic accident and safety research.

“More safety”

So-called collision diagrams are created for a total of 22 accident clusters with 281 accidents (the data comes from the period 2020 to 2022). The accident data is checked for plausibility, displayed graphically and evaluated with regard to the structural connection. In addition, clusters of accident types are determined.

“We expect the results to provide an important basis for safety-related renovation measures for the road system, traffic routing and equipment. The project also enables us to identify connections that may be connected to the course of the accident. With this knowledge we can subsequently take the best possible improvement measures and thus make a significant contribution to safety at potentially critical road locations,” says the deputy mayor Martin Hajart (VP), who is responsible for traffic.
