Italy announced that it will accept to receive Africans, but they must be qualified workers

The government of the right-wing Giorgia Meloni signed an agreement to welcome workers from Tunisia, as a way to stop migratory pressure.

The Italian government signed an agreement on Friday to host some 4,000 Tunisian workersin line with promises to help the North African State curb migratory pressure on its borders.

The agreement was signed during a visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajanito Tunisia, according to his office.

The agreement provides for regular migration channels for “skilled workers” who wish to come to Italy, according to an Italian information note. Rome also promised to help Tunisia in its efforts to stop migrant smugglers and create employment opportunities for young people.

Tunisia is exposed to strong migratory pressureespecially from sub-Saharan countries, and it is the first country of repatriation from Italy,” says the Italian document, which adds that 1,615 immigrants have returned there so far this year.

The migrant arrivals by sea to Italy have almost doubled this year compared to the same period in 2022, with 140,000 people landed to date.

Around the 91% came from Tunisiawhich has motivated Rome’s efforts to help local authorities stem the flow.
