An international jury awarded the Steyr City Museum a renowned seal of quality

Innovative event formats and high-quality educational programs – this is what the Steyr City Museum team led by director Maria Ogawa has been scoring points with for around two years. Back then, in 2022, a new concept was developed for the museum located in the Innerberger Stadel. This had previously been extensively and exemplary converted for the state exhibition in Steyr from 2018.

The city museum has now been awarded the Austrian Museum Seal of Quality by the Austrian Museums Association and the International Council of Museums (ICOM) at the Austrian Museum Day in Dornbirn. The jury praised the professional support of the museum depot, the friendly staff and the diverse activities in the area of ​​social media. The award shows that the Steyr Museum, whose history dates back to the 19th century and was originally known as the Heimathaus, takes responsibility for preserving cultural heritage and offering visitors an outstanding museum experience.

“The Austrian Museum Seal of Quality is not the goal of museum development, but should be seen as a beginning and an opportunity to break new ground and jointly further think about the term and the institution of museum,” says a statement from the jury, which is also the one sought by the Steyr City Museum constant process of further development is emphasized.

“It is recognition of the excellent work done in the city museum,” says City Councilor for Culture Katrin Auer, “it is a place that conveys the history and culture of our city in an impressive way. This award underlines the importance of the city museum as an educational institution and cultural center for the residents of Steyr.”
