The Linzer only needs to score two points on Sunday to claim the first victory by an Austrian in the prestigious series. And only if his competitor, the Italo-Viennese Mirko Bortolotti, scores fully. For the 25-year-old, the title would be his greatest success to date.

Preining won 0.624 seconds ahead of his teammate Dennis Olsen (DEN), which means his Manthey EMA racing team has already secured the team championship on Saturday. The individual title should follow on Sunday: “I hope so. I still need two points. That doesn’t look like much, but you can see how close it is and how fast it can happen. We have to stay focused until the end,” said Preining, who was also very happy about the double victory with Olsen.

More on the subject: Preining is just missing the last piece of the puzzle

Preining, who celebrated a start-to-finish victory on Saturday, is now 27 points ahead of Bortolotti, having increased his lead by 17 points on Saturday.
