The acting President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, today expressed his “support and solidarity with the suffering of the population in Gaza” during a meeting in Egypt with the leader of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), Mahmud Abbas, on the sidelines of the summit that seeks to contain the new escalation of violence between the Islamist movement Hamas and Israel.

“I have conveyed our support and solidarity with the suffering of the population in Gaza,” Sánchez said in a message accompanying a video published on Facebook in which he refers to the current conflict in the Gaza Strip.
Sánchez added that he also let Abbas know that Spain “will increase humanitarian aid and cooperation to Palestine,” according to the Europa Press news agency.
Likewise, he insisted that “the future in peace and security involves the two-state solution”, a path that he had already claimed earlier in his speech in the summit plenary session in front of leaders from around the world.
Likewise, in a message on the social network X (formerly Twitter), he said that he met with the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohamed Shia Al Sudani.
“I have conveyed my gratitude to you for all your efforts to de-escalate the conflict and avoid a regional crisis. We must put an end to the violence and move towards a two-state political solution,” Sánchez reaffirmed.
Leaders of more than 30 countries meeting today in Egypt urged an “immediate” ceasefire in the new conflict between Israel and Hamas, called for the protection of civilians and asked to “reactivate” the peace process in the Middle East.
On October 7, Hamas launched thousands of missiles from the Gaza Strip in an unprecedented attack and carried out an armed incursion into Israel’s southern border areas, prompting Tel Aviv to declare itself “at war.”
