Who would have thought? The 12th round of the Upper Austrian League belonged to the teams that are currently at the bottom of the table. It was the game day of the latecomers:
SPG catfish 1b: The bottom team from the trade fair city managed the biggest surprise with a 2-0 win against third-placed Dietach. “These are points that very few people expected. But the victory is deserved, we were the better team for over 90 minutes,” says coach Jürgen Schatas, who took over the Welser team in September. In its six games, the arrow clearly points upwards: the regional league team’s 1b team only suffered two defeats and scored eight points.
SPG pre-garden: The Mühlviertlers have already changed coaches this season following the resignation of Samir Gradascevic – with new coach Dominik Nimmervoll, the club returned to the road to success: In the second game under the 37-year-old, they won 3-0 against ASK St. Valentin also the second victory. 31 goals conceded still mean, together with Bad Ischl, the weakest defense in the league – last weekend there was once again a zero against the Lower Austrians. “It won’t work for us to score three or four goals every game. But I didn’t focus specifically on defense. On the contrary: the focus recently was on the offensive – the attacker is also the first defender,” says neo-coach Nimmervoll .
SV Bad Ischl: After eight rounds, the team from the Salzkammergut had their backs to the wall with just one point. The 3-2 away win in Bad Leonfelden was the third complete success in the last four rounds. While the competitors had changed their trainers, Thomas Heissl was always untouched. The patience has paid off.
SPG Friedburg/Pöndorf: Coach Ernst Öbster’s team recently suffered three defeats in a row – the 1-0 win against Edelweiss should now mark a turnaround: “It’s really important for the morale of the team – especially when you see what’s going on in the league. That are crazy results.”
Union Mondsee: Mondsee’s 2-1 win at Bad Schallerbach was also a curious game. The home side should have led more, especially in the first half, but Mondsee turned the game around in the second half with goals from Daniel Bares and Sebastian Handlechner.
