“Contact with other parents is really important for young mothers and fathers,” says Ulrike Kneidinger-Peherstorfer, head of the Spiegel meeting points. The Linz diocese’s parent education facility has existed for almost 30 years. Parents of small children exchange ideas every week in 223 communities across the country. “Friends for life are often formed here – you are in the same situation, life with small children is challenging. Many parents look here for support to give their children security.”
The groups play, sing, talk and there are also many parent education seminars offered. “In the past it was mainly mothers of three to four year olds who came to the mirror groups; today they mostly come with babies.”

Training as an assistant
The Spiegel meeting points are organized by more than 1,000 volunteers. “Anyone who works in the meeting points can now be trained to become a teaching assistant and then work in childcare facilities,” says Kneidinger-Peherstorfer.
