A prince or princess throne, a Christmas sleigh with reindeer and oversized animal figures: these and other light installations will be available from November 11th “Glitter Park” in the community of Marchtrenk. From November 11th, the new attraction on Lessingstrasse will be open from Friday to Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. “It is an important project especially for our families. Especially in times of rising prices, an excursion destination is offered where entry costs nothing”says deputy mayor and cultural officer Heidi Strauss (SP).

23 different figures

The French company Blachere Illumination, which has a branch in Krenglbach and also equips the Graben in Vienna with Christmas lights, is supplying a total of 23 light figures. While some are primarily to be admired, others – like the throne and carriage – can also be used.

A different Marchtrenker club serves drinks every week in a wooden hut in the park. “You can take tea and cookies with you from home or buy something there. There should be no constraints”says Strauss. Families from other communities are also expressly invited to visit the park.

The lighting is provided entirely with energy-saving LED lamps, so that the daily electricity costs are only around three euros – the municipality wants to set an example for environmental protection, explains the deputy mayor. The preparation took around a year: “All parties in the local council supported the project and the collaboration was very good.”

The grand opening begins on November 11th at 5 p.m. Afterwards there will be regular children’s choir concerts, fairy tale readings and special events such as a visit from Santa Claus.

It’s open “Glitter Park” every weekend until January 14th, i.e. until the end of the Christmas holidays. The municipality has purchased some of the figures and rented others – they will change regularly in the coming years.
