At least 158 vehicles collided, resulting in seven deaths and more than 25 people being taken to hospital.
At least seven people died and 25 others were hospitalized after a chain crash of 158 vehicles because of a great fog bank that involved a highway in the state of Luisanasouth of USA, local authorities reported.
How the accident occurred
The so-called “super fog”which according to US media was caused by a combination of smoke from fires and a Dense fog, caused a massive collision yesterday on Interstate 55, about 48 kilometers from New Orleanssaid state police Louisiana it’s a statement.
At least 158 vehicles collided in a chainwhich caused a balance of seven dead and more than 25 people were taken to hospitalnot counting “many victims (who) sought medical assistance on their own,” reported the AFP news agency.
Photos published by police showed both lanes of a bridge on the highway where the accident occurred blocked by vehicles crashed, including dozens burned.
According to police sources, there was a fire on the highway.
Christopher Coll, 41 years oldwas one of the protagonists of the accident, and recalled that “I was already braking, reducing speed, when an F-250 climbed on top of my trailer and took me in front,” he added in dialogue with The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate.
And he added that “I could smell smoke and hear other drivers calling for help.in addition to the roar of vehicles colliding and tires bursting. I managed to open the passenger door with a kick. to free myself and subsequently provided assistance to other drivers, pulling a person out through the window of their vehicle.
