They sprayed the facade of the country house in St. Pölten with orange paint, turned the water under the country house ship green and disrupted the ongoing debate by heckling. The meeting was interrupted for almost ten minutes. State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner condemned the action as “blind radicalism”.
The FPÖ’s current hour on the topic of “Cheap energy instead of climate hysteria” was just running in the state parliament when the activists began heckling from the visitors’ gallery. The “Last Generation” justified the action in a broadcast with the aim of “putting the climate catastrophe on the agenda and calling for political measures against the destruction – above all the implementation of the recommendations from the Climate Council”.

Mikl-Leitner reacted angrily. The climate activists sprayed the very window that allows a view of the memorial that was set up for the victims of Hamas terror in Israel. “Climate protection is important, we all agree on that, but this blind radicalism, which even turns a blind eye to a memorial for terror victims, must come to an end,” emphasized Mikl-Leitner.
State Parliament President Wilfing (ÖVP) spoke of a “new low” and ÖVP club chairman Jochen Danninger said such a disruptive action had no place in a democracy. FPÖ club chairman Reinhard Teufel also saw the action as an attack on democracy. “Instead of entering into discussions with MPs, the most climate activists are resorting to violence,” said Teufel.

According to the Lower Austria State Police Directorate, one person who was involved in the action was provisionally arrested for attempted damage to property and resistance to state authority. At least two others are reported on suspicion of property damage. One officer suffered minor abrasions during the operation. The paint was easy to remove from the facade, a police spokeswoman told APA. The fire department has already cleaned it. The State Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Combating Terrorism has started an investigation together with the city police.
