Cool and wet, dry and mild: “There will be a bit of everything in the coming days”says Alexander Ohms from GeoSphere Austria. “During the fall break, students can prepare for warm and beautiful days, but also for wet and cool days.”

The meteorologist expects the weather to be relatively unpleasant, especially this Friday: cloudy and rainy weather will initially predominate in the morning. The rain will gradually stop in the afternoon, but it will still be windy and cool. With temperatures ranging from nine to 14 degrees including gusts of wind with average speeds of 50 km/h, today is more suitable for indoor activities.

Foehn brings mild weather

Tomorrow, Saturday, the weather will be much friendlier. When the weather is sunny, temperatures rise to up to 16 degrees. This trend continues on Sunday and Monday. “A foehn current makes it warmer. This is particularly noticeable in the higher regions such as the Salzkammergut”says Ohms. It is typically cooler in flat regions such as the central area.

With temperatures of 14 to 20 degrees, you should take the opportunity to go for a walk or hike on Monday, because the rain will briefly return to the country on Tuesday. Especially in the afternoon you should pack your umbrella for Halloween. According to Ohms, this will no longer be needed the following day on All Saints Day: “Like the entire second half of the week, things will be friendlier again on the holiday.”

November also begins with relatively mild conditions. According to Ohms, the weather is currently suitable for the time of year, but October was already significantly too warm compared to the long-term average. “Especially in the first half of the month, temperatures were significantly above normal in relation to the past 30 years”says Ohms. Across Austria it is three degrees above average. This makes October one of the warmest ever, according to the weather expert.
