Just 14 days ago, the 59-year-old celebrated his 91st birthday with Richard Lugner in Vienna. “Off to the Lugner birthday gala at Belvedere Palace”the fashion entrepreneur wrote on her Facebook and Instagram channels and posted several photos that show her beaming with joy and dressed up in her party outfit in front of the mirror.
Sonja Schönanger, lovingly from the builder “Beetle” named, was in a relationship with Richard Lugner between 2008 and 2009 and was still one of his close circle of friends. Now the resolute blonde, who had run a shoe shop on Laurenzerberg in downtown Vienna for almost 35 years, died as a result of cancer.
“She was actually the blooming life”
Richard Lugner is quoted in media reports as saying that she was diagnosed with lung cancer two years ago and that the metastases had spread. The last time he saw Schönagner was at his birthday party. She complained of back pain and was then taken to a hospital by taxi. He called her on the phone on Sunday.
The news of her death shocked him. “We are all very affected because she was actually the most flourishing life”said Lugner. His ex-wife Mausi Lugner was also shocked. “I’m so sorry, I’m really at a loss for words, it’s so tragic”said the 58-year-old.
