Rapid should feel the frustration of LASK in the Europa League

LINZ. “Everything is still possible,” said LASK midfielder Sascha Horvath almost defiantly about the chance of promotion in the Europa League. The athletes are without any points and after the game in Toulouse (0:1) they also paid their dues at Saint-Gilloise (1:2). “They’re both coming to us, so we’ll take something with us.” LASK can work off their frustration on Sunday in the Bundesliga away game against Rapid (5 p.m.).

“We have to take the positive things from the game against Saint-Gilloise,” said coach Thomas Sageder. Rapid have not won any of their last five home games, although their offense is accurate: 22 goals this season are the second most after Salzburg.

The effectiveness in front of the goal was once again lacking at LASK in Brussels. “We come out with two good chances in the second half, one has to be international,” explained Horvath on Sky. A penalty goal and the 1:2 in the 94th minute after a free kick deprived the Linzers of their deserved reward. A win against Saint-Gilloise on November 9th in Linz will now be necessary to at least maintain the chance of third place, which ultimately means moving to the round of 16 of the Europa Conference League.

Usor is getting going

A winner in Brussels was Moses Usor. The 21-year-old was always accurate in training, which is why he was repeatedly given opportunities to play – but he didn’t take advantage of them for a long time. Now he opened the scoring in Salzburg (1-0), and against Saint-Gilloise he scored his second goal for LASK after a five-month dry spell. In the second half he helped out as left-back, a position he only played out of necessity in the recent international break against Podbrezova (1-1) – so well that Sageder remembered it when he was given the yellow/red had to replace the endangered George Bello. Against Rapid, Usor is in demand again: as an enforcer who rewards LASK for their effort.
