Best newcomer, best album, best track, best producer, best remix: The list of awards that Martin Schober (35) has won at the renowned Drum & Bass Arena Awards in recent years is long. The native of Upper Austria has already got the crowds dancing in the big scene clubs in London with his sets, toured with the local grandmasters Camo & Krooked through New Zealand and played at major music festivals all over the world.

“I feel most comfortable in Linz”
Despite his international fame, the 35-year-old has remained loyal to his homeland of Upper Austria. He produced his first beats almost 20 years ago in his parents’ house in Allhaming (Linz-Land district). Today he lives in an apartment in the state capital when he’s not on the road. His studio, where he produces for his music label Modus, is also in Upper Austria.
“I’ve often been asked why I don’t live in Vienna or London. But I still feel most comfortable in Linz,” he says in an OÖN interview. The city is the optimal size and has a diverse cultural offering. “With festivals like Stream, Bubble Days, Lido or Klangwolke and legendary venues like KAPU or Stadtwerkstatt, for me Linz is more than just an industrial city,” says the 35-year-old. “It’s also a dream to lie in the sun on the Danube in summer and to be on the mountain in 45 minutes on a snowboard in winter,” says the enthusiastic skateboarder and snowboarder, listing other advantages of his homeland.

Not a gig like any other
When he visits the Posthof on Saturday, November 4th as part of his Austrian tour, it will not be a gig like any other for him. “I normally only play in Linz once a year. The show is something very special for me because my family and many friends are there. Plus, you don’t have to get on a train or plane, but you can comfortably go to the ‘Gelbe Krokodil’ beforehand “Go out to eat,” says Schober. When it comes to culinary delights, the well-known DJ also stays down to earth: his favorite dish is a schnitzel.
