A Rapid Kicker followed LASK’s Europa League appearance very closely on Thursday: Welser Lukas Grgic has already been on the ball in 77 competitive games for the black and whites – has been wearing the Hütteldorfer jersey since the summer. “It’s a shame that they gave up the game in Belgium so late,” says the 28-year-old, who returned to Austria from Croatian club Hajduk Split in the summer. “I would have had another three years of contract with Split, but I’m not one to sit out my contract. I always had to struggle with minor injury problems and wanted a fresh start.”

He still doesn’t want to miss his time on the Dalmatian coast of Croatia: “We won the cup twice. Especially the first title after almost ten years was very special.” In terms of environment, the nine-time Croatian champion is comparable to Austria’s record champion. The midfielder’s experiences at the top Croatian club also help him today: “Hajduk Split is the biggest club in Croatia. The pressure is great – even in friendly matches. Average is not accepted. I have seen how the fans follow us through the city after the cup victory, but also that after a weak phase they demanded our jerseys and the whole stadium booed us.”

He is currently experiencing a difficult phase at his new club: in the last seven league games he only managed one win. Tomorrow the turnaround should be successful against his former club: “LASK is doing a good job after the upheaval, but we also have quality. We have always shown that, especially in the top games.”
