The president of the INAU resigned to support Álvaro Delgado

Pablo Abdala left his position to comply with the constitutional deadline and dedicate himself to political activity.

The president of National Institute for Children and Adolescents of Uruguay (INAU), Pablo Abdalapresented his resignation from the position he held since April 1, 2020 to dedicate himself to campaign activity ahead of next year’s elections, in which he announced that he will support the pre-candidacy of the current secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado.

Complying with the deadline indicated in the Constitution so that the members of the boards or general directors of autonomous entities and decentralized services leave their positions if they want to participate in the electoral campaign, Abdala yesterday sent a letter to the president Luis Lacalle Poucommunicating his decision, as reported by the newspaper.

“I presented my resignation to join political and electoral activity. I will support Álvaro Delgado as a candidate for the Presidency in the sector D Center“said the former nationalist deputy and now also former president of the INAU. At the moment, the former leader does not know who will take his place, and he does not know if there is already any decision from the central government in this regard.

Abdala was part of the space National Alliance, but now he is a member of D Centro along with mayors Wilson Ezquerra and Carlos Moreira; Deputy Mario Colman; the Undersecretary of Tourism Remo Monzeglio; the president of Colonization, Julio Cardozo; the manager of Alur Álvaro Lorenzo; the vice president of Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU) Washington Ribeiro; the director of the Communication Services Regulatory Unit (Ursec) Gustavo Delgado; the director of Inefop Pablo Puppo; and the director of the National Administration of Fuel, Alcohol and Portland (Ancap)Richard Charamelo, among others.

The losses of the Colorado Party

Yesterday, the last business day before one year before the 2024 general elections, the president of the Central Board of Directors (Codicen) of the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP), Robert Silva; and the president of Antel, Gabriel Gruméndez, to dedicate themselves to political activity, in which both will participate as pre-candidates for the Colorado Party.

Both officials communicated their decision to the president Luis Lacalle Pou on Thursday and met with the president at the residence of Suarez and Reyes; although it was already public knowledge that both would resign to begin the new stage of the electoral campaign.

In the case of Silva, his resignation was delayed compared to what was originally announced when he accepted the pre-candidacy for the sector. Citizens, since it decided to wait for the approval of the new high school and UTU baccalaureate plan with its respective workload and curricular framework. For the position, they officially proposed Virginia Cáceres Batalla.

For his part, Gurméndez will compete in the red internal competitions representing the List 15 (Batllistas Group), and spoke of the fulfillment of a cycle in which “we deliver a better Antel.” The president of Ancap, Alexander Stipanicic, He will be the one who occupies the position on an interim basis.
