He National Emergency System (Sinae) reported yesterday afternoon that, for the moment, the situation in Artigas, Paysandu and Leapis “under control” and the evacuation operations continue to be carried out without any inconvenience, in accordance with the current protocols and with the level of coordination that was expected.
Through its official X account (formerly Twitter), Sinae reported that “the number of displaced people rose to 1,930” in these three departments due to inclement weather.
According to the last survey carried out by Sinae, of the 1,930 people, some 1,241 correspond to the department of Paysandú, while 533 to Salto and 156 to Artigas.
In the breakdown of the number of displaced people, 1,715 people self-evacuated nationwide: 1,195 in Paysandú; 383 in Salto and 137 in Artigas. Likewise, 188 people had to be evacuated: 150 in Salto; 19 in Artigas and about 19 in Paysandú.
The government announced support measures for those displaced by the floods
Among the support measures that the government prepared to alleviate the situation of the victims, the Ministry of Social Development (Mides) informed that the people who are included in the lists of each Departmental Emergency Coordination Center (Cecoed) and are users of the Uruguay Social Card (TUS) The balance on the card will be tripled one time only.
At the same time, UTE will apply discounts from 10% per day on electricity bills, based on the previous month’s consumption, up to total exemption from paying for the service.
