Uruguay will receive its first sustainable cruise in December

The country continues to be a vanguard in the region regarding sustainable tourism. This time, hosting an environmentally friendly ship.

The Scenic Eclipse ship will arrive in Uruguay on December 3.

Uruguay will receive its first environmentally friendly cruise within the framework of a cruise season that it considers to be promising; the ship is called Scenic Eclipse and will make two stops in the country, first in Punta del Este and then in Montevideo.

The beginning of the cruise season is December 3, which coincides with the arrival day of the Scenic Eclipse, within the framework of a period that promises to be prosperous for the Uruguay regarding naval tourism. The interim minister of Tourism, Remo Monzeglioconfirmed to El País that that same day it will arrive at the port of Punta del Este and, the next day, it will reach Montevideo.

The Scenic Eclipse has technology that allows it to navigate all types of waters without problems due to its electronic navigationAzipod, to its large stabilizers and Polar Class 6 classification. Meanwhile, the ship can transport between 200 and 228 cruise passengers, depending on the destination.

Good forecasts for the cruise season

He Ministry of Tourism foresees a 10% increase in the number of ships arriving in the country and, consequently, a increase in visitors during the next season cruise ships which will extend until April 29, 2024.

Thus, the government foresees an improvement after the last record season, where 187 ships arrived ports nationals, with the arrival of 320,000 visitors, who left some 16.3 million dollars in the Uruguayan economy.

On the other hand, the Minister of Transportation and Public Works, José Luis Falero, maintained that tourist activity focused on nautical and cruise ships “experienced remarkable growth in recent times.”

Falero highlighted investments in infrastructure in the ports of Montevideo and Cologne and announced that he works “so that the port of Punta del Este prioritize and improve your facilities in order to better receive those who visit you.” In addition, it projects actions so that the port of Cologne can receive cruises.
