The celebration was cheerful and ended with the new father in the hospital: his friend – a 55-year-old from the Braunau district – wanted to show him his handgun around 3:30 a.m. Believing it was unloaded, the drunken man fiddled with the gun and pulled the trigger. But there was still a cartridge in the barrel. The projectile shot the 32-year-old host through the right arm. The injured person was able to make an emergency call on his own.
Apart from the two men, no one was in the apartment. The police took away the 55-year-old’s gun, which he had legally owned. A provisional weapons ban was issued against him and he is being reported.
After receiving first aid, the 32-year-old was taken to the hospital in Ried by the rescue team. The shooter was so shocked that he had to be cared for by the crisis intervention team.
