The Departmental Board of Montevideo decreed it following a request from the taxi union

The Departmental Board of the Municipality of Montevideo (IM) decreed, at a request from the taxi union, that the vehicles intended for Uber and Cabify They should remove advertising from mobility applications.

A decree of the Departmental Board In late March, it enabled in-vehicle advertising on the apps. However, the decree established that they were prohibited from carrying out their own advertising; it had to be from other companies, unlike taxis that could carry the badges of their own companies. The Board’s decision was not supported by the Chamber of Transport of the Intendancy.

A goal that was not met

The decision had the objective of helping drivers by providing them one more income. However, the results were not as expected. In the month of August, the taxi union presented a statement to the director of Mobility of the Municipality of Montevideo, Pablo Inthamoussu, establishing that the decision of the Departmental Board caused permanent damage due to the presence of these mobility applications, which were aggravated by advertising on their own vehicles.

As established by El Observador, the note was signed by the president of the Chamber of Transportation, Juan Salgado and the president of the Unique Taxi Guild, Oscar Dourado. Meanwhile, the note was delivered to the IM’s mobility leader who reported that he had received it. After the presentation of the note, some of the drivers of Cabify They claimed to have received calls from the IM stating that they had to remove the advertising from their vehicles otherwise they could be fined or even take away their driving license.

After the calls, the IM had to apologize to the transportation application because the decree had not yet been repealed, so the warnings to its drivers did not apply. Meanwhile, last Thursday, the Montevideo councilors repealed the decree and the advertising on vehicles Cabify and Uber They are no longer enabled.
