The connection between tenant Oliver Schlader and his team and the Glasnerhütte at Glasenberg 19 did not last for a year. According to reports, Schlader never really arrived at the hut – tenants and hut guests are said to not have warmed up to each other. At the end of the year it’s over again.

Everything started promisingly on January 1st of this year: the reopened Glasnerhütte was literally stormed by guests. There is nothing left of this initial euphoria. Recently the hut has been closed more and more often. Schlader asked guests on social media for their understanding. It was already clear that things couldn’t go well for much longer. Now the hut is available again at the beginning of the year – that’s what Kurt Krifter wrote in a post on Facebook. Over 17 years, he and his wife Helga have turned the hut into a popular excursion destination with honest home cooking. At the request of the owner, a farmer from Maria Neustift, he is now helping so that life can hopefully return to the Glasnerhütte quickly. “Our passion is in the hut, so I’m not indifferent to what happens up there,” says Krifter.

There are a lot of rumors in the Ennstal about the reasons for the end, but not much that is solid. Tenant Oliver Schlader left questions from the Steyrer Zeitung unanswered. Only the mobile box answers the number of the hut telephone. “He doesn’t pick up when I call him,” confirms Mayor Martin Haider (VP). There are still a few things that need to be clarified. In any case, it couldn’t have been due to a lack of support: “We always help together locally,” says Haider. The unplanned end at the Glasnerhütte hits Maria Neustift at an inopportune time. As reported, a local club has been trying for years on Glasenberg to provide affordable skiing for the whole family on the doorstep. “For this to work well, we need a one-two punch with the hut, where the children can warm up a bit, especially on cold days,” says the local boss. At 18 euros for the adult day ticket, the tariffs not only remain stable, but this price is also unique compared to Austria’s ski resorts.

In the middle of town, the Großbichler Roisentaverne inn is also waiting for motivated tenants, and has been for quite a while.
