The power plant in the tobacco factory was built in 1935 according to the plans of Peter Behrens and Alexander Popp, but it has long since lost its original function.

In 2022, the opening of the Linz beer brewery and the “Zur Liesl” inn was celebrated in the listed building, and seminar and event rooms can now also be found there on a total of 2,320 square meters.

This “contemporary” interpretation was recognized by the state of Upper Austria with the recognition prize for monument preservation, the prize is endowed with 2,700 euros. The jury praised the “respectful treatment of the listed building structure”; it was a particular challenge to incorporate new functions while at the same time preserving the patina of the listed building structure.

The two managing directors of the tobacco factory – Denise Halak and Markus Eidenberger – are not only very happy about the award; they accepted the award in the Redoutensäle on October 30th from Governor Thomas Stelzer.
