Action sharp by the Linz police against dusk burglars

The number of burglaries at dusk and at night, which are regularly warned about in autumn and winter, is currently still in the low range, according to the state capital’s magistrate. To ensure that it stays that way, the police and the city security department recommend taking precautions.

“The Linz police are increasing their presence in residential areas and are already carrying out ongoing priority checks against twilight attacks. The increased presence of the executive is intended to deter potential burglars in advance,” said City Councilor for Security Michael Raml (FPÖ). Everyone can take precautions, says the city councilor for security. Attentive neighbors also play an important role: “If something seems suspicious to you, don’t hesitate and alert the police immediately. Many eyes see more.”

Tips against burglars at dusk:

• Lock all windows and access doors, even if you are leaving for a short time. Burglars usually act very quickly; just a few minutes are enough to cause a lot of damage.
• Access aids such as garden furniture, boxes or ladders should be secured with chains or locked away.
• Avoid showing signs of absence or sharing information about it on social media.
• Create a property or inventory list, take photos of your valuables and write down the device numbers of your cell phone, laptop and the like.
• If you are going to be away for a long time, avoid a full mailbox or advertising material on your doorstep. Inform trusted neighbors and leave a spare key.
• Use timers to turn lights on and off at irregular intervals and motion detectors outdoors.
