The national director of Mining and Geology, Marcelo Pugliesi, He traveled on an official mission to the Asian country with the objective of discussing the renewal of the memorandum of understanding on geoscience between both countries, for which the visit to China of the president Luis Lacalle Pou, which will take place at the end of the month.

With the aim of strengthening cooperation in mining and geology between both countries, Pugliesi met with representatives of the China Geological Survey, the Mining Association, Beijing University of Mining and Technology.
In this framework, the leader explained that the activity occupies an important place in the country, especially in the area of construction, in which it is self-sufficient. In turn, he referred to the gold and iron deposits, of which a good part is exported to the Asian country.
He also explained the importance of the exploitation of agates and amethysts in the north of the country, semiprecious stones of which China is one of the main importers.
Development, technology and sustainability opportunities
Besides, Pugliesi He referred to the “ample development opportunities, thanks to its resources” of the Uruguayan mining sector and highlighted “the importance of environmental permits when granting mining permits, in a country that is committed to the green economy and environmental sustainability.” .
