Uruguayan hemp food company prepares to export to the US and the region

The Uruguayan company goland, a regional pioneer in the production, industrialization and marketing of natural foods made from hemp seeds, announced an ambitious plan to begin exporting its products.

The company, which they have run since 2019 Andres Sosa and Rodrigo Gomez, currently has two plants located in the departments of Paysandu and Cannelloni, which have a plantation of 100 hectares of grain. The objective, they explained to Ambit, is to reach 500 hectares in the coming years.

Those responsible for the venture indicated that, in the medium term and together with Uruguay XXI, the Canelones Municipality and the Chamber of Industries of Uruguay (CIU)the objective is to reach international clients in United States, Europe, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and Peru.

Goland’s CEOs do not hide their enthusiasm for the development of the venture that was born five years ago and is experiencing dizzying growth. “What we do is a vertical integration of the entire chain: production, industrialization and marketing of foods based on hemp seeds. Our idea was always to go to the final consumers and generate added value to the products here, in Uruguay”, Sosa said.

Regarding the internationalization of their production, Gómez explained that they work in two mechanisms: one through traditional channels which, with the support of organizations such as Uruguay XXI, has allowed them to participate in international fairs specialized in the area; and another through e-commerce. “Our three products are exported equally, but we are already working on new ones,” the young entrepreneurs stressed.

In any case, the growth is both locally and internationally. “At the local level we have added some five points of sale per monthespecially health food stores,” Sosa pointed out, about which Gómez added that “the investment In these 5 years it has been around $400,000 and the reality is that we have been on the market for three months and sales through the e-commerce channel have increased. between 300 and 400%”.

The team and the company

Goland is made up of Rodrigo Gomez and Andrés Sosa, co-founders and CCO; Gabriel Rezzano Vinkers, agricultural engineer; and Carolina Urquiola, pharmaceutical chemist and technical consultant in GMP.

Likewise, it was the first company in Uruguay in producing, industrializing and marketing a line of plant-based foods and also in having the support of the National Innovation Agency (ANNI).

Regarding the geographical area of ​​cultivation for production, they have had a growth close to 200%.
