A witness alerted the police on Friday evening around 6:30 p.m. who noticed a supposedly drunk driver on the B145, Salzkammergut Bundesstraße. A patrol from the Bad Ischl police station immediately investigated the complaint and discovered the car on the way towards Bad Goisern.
While trying to stop the car, the 18-year-old from the Gmunden district ignored several stop signs and suddenly accelerated. Despite heavy rain and poor visibility, he tried to outrun the officers at speeds of up to 180 km/h. The 18-year-old overtake was extremely risky: only the careful driving style of the driver in oncoming traffic was able to prevent something worse from happening.
Additional patrols were called in and a roadblock was set up in the Bad Goisern area. Despite heavy traffic, officers recorded speeds of up to 150 km/h. After the young man had to take his foot off the accelerator due to the traffic situation in the local area, the patrol following behind managed to get in front of the vehicle and stop the 18-year-old. In an attempt to escape, he ended up intentionally ramming the patrol car.
The police were able to get out of their car in time and arrest the 18-year-old on the spot. An alcohol test showed a value of less than 0.5 per mille. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
