Like the Viennese high and wealthy nobility once did, 25 members of the Steyr Senior Citizens’ Association, albeit a little late, traveled in the saloon car over the Semmering to Opatija to the sea for their summer vacation. Chairwoman Ursula Voglsam had through the Linz travel agency Fritz Moser Booked the vintage train and a fine hotel for your stay in the coastal town. “The dining car was like something out of a film with the Belgian master detective Hercule Poirot on the Orient Express,” enthused one participant. The travel advisors from the Steyr and Garsten Senior Citizens’ Association, Martha Limpock and Siegfried Hollnbuchner, were then experienced tour guides on day trips to the history of the locations. The impressions filled at least one memory card on the digital cameras and cell phones. There was also a lot to photograph in Hum – with 20 inhabitants in central Istria, the smallest town in the world with its own wall.
