A bloody act occurred on Monday morning during the planned handover of an apartment in the city of Salzburg. A 35-year-old man from Yemen attacked with a knife the 61-year-old landlord who wanted to take back the apartment because the rental agreement had expired. The Salzburger suffered life-threatening injuries. By the afternoon there was no longer any danger to life, the police said. The alleged perpetrator was arrested shortly after the crime.
The landlord and a real estate agent visited the Yemeni in the apartment in the Parsch district around 9 a.m. The tenant should have handed over the accommodation because the rental agreement expired on that day. Immediately after entering the apartment, the 35-year-old attacked the person providing the accommodation with a knife, stabbed him several times and critically injured him. The agent, a 64-year-old from Salzburg, was able to get to safety and leave the apartment.
He alerted the police, who were there immediately and arrested the suspect, who was about to leave the house, just five minutes after the emergency call. “He had the murder weapon in his hand at the time,” said a police spokeswoman. The victim was immediately taken to hospital and his life was no longer in danger by the afternoon.
During the first interrogation, the 35-year-old confessed to attempted murder, according to the police report. The man was taken to the Salzburg prison.
