“The thermal run in Geinberg is as much a part of late autumn as the leaves on the route,” says Alois Petermair. Since the twelfth edition, he and his team from the Geinberg Running Club (LC) have been organizing the major sporting event, which has developed into one of the largest in the Innviertel – and beyond – in recent years. Next Sunday the thermal run will be in its 24th edition. The OÖN is there again as a media partner. Last year, more than 400 enthusiastic runners took part, and according to Petermair there will be as many again this year. “At least 400 participants are our desired goal. If the weather cooperates, that’s certainly possible. Of course we won’t complain about more than that,” says Petermair.
The experienced organizer is satisfied with the registration phase so far. However, many participants would need a longer start-up time. “It has become common practice in recent years that many registrations only arrive shortly before the event,” explains Petermair. With his well-rehearsed team, he has been in the hot preparation phase for the big running event for some time. From the organization of the marshals to the coordination of the official requirements to the catering: When the first starting signal is fired on Sunday at 10 a.m., everything should be running smoothly. Traditionally, the youngsters start with the 580 and 900 meter runs. At 10:30 a.m., youth, women and men start on the 5,300 and 10,000 meter routes, which are also part of the 2023 Grenzlandcup.

“Established in the region”
The thermal run scores particularly well with its challenging route, says Petermair: “Our run is known as a demanding event. Many ambitious runners like that. Added to this, of course, is the special ambience.” But the organization also presents challenges year after year. “The better you get at it, the more your demands grow. But we have also established the thermal run as a major sporting event in the region,” says Petermair. He and his team want to prove once again that this is the case on Sunday.
