In February of last year, the stationary businessmen and the service station worker delegates had not reached an agreement regarding a salary increase. The delegates had asked for 10% of the margin of the service stations.

Faced with this, the manager of Unvenu, Federico Castro, said that this order made it “impossible for companies to absorb more costs.” In that sense, he assured the union that “they would love for the sector to be able to pay better salaries or have more benefits, but with the current bonus margin it is impossible.”
Willingness to negotiate
Meanwhile, the leader of UNTMRA, Federico Ciccero, assured the specialized media Surtidores that there was always will on the part of the workers. “At a certain point in the negotiations we said that we were withdrawing the platform, so that UNVENU could offer whatever it was willing to give, including the MTSS made different proposals, but unfortunately no initiatives were presented from the businessmen,” he explained.
In this sense, at the beginning of July an agreement had been reached jointly with the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) of a 4.47% increase in salary recovery, based on the Consumer price index and in the projection of inflation. For example, the salary of an operator would go from 31,503 to 34,735 Uruguayan pesos. For its part, the current agreement will have a scope of two years, which will also be accompanied by economic achievements for its workers.
Currently, the sector has a workforce of 8,500 employees where the majority, about 6,000 in total, correspond to the category of operators or “pisteros” and the others belong to other sectors such as employees minimarket, administration, managers, managers and maintenance.
