The new minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Elisa Facio, shared an activity with the former director of UN Women and former president of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, while later he held bilateral meetings with regional leaders to strengthen ties of cooperation in energy matters and development of the green hydrogen.
In one of his first activities as head of the MIEM, Facio maintained contacts with representatives of the International Energy Agency, the European Union and HIF Global, the company that will invest about 4,000 million dollars to build a green hydrogen plant in Paysandu.
The leader, who recently replaced Omar Paganini At the head of the portfolio, he participated in the VIII Energy Week that takes place in Montevideo, where they also exhibited Bachelet, the president of UTE, Silvia Emaldi; the national director of Energy, Fitzgerald Cantero; and the national director of Industries, Susana Pecoy.

Bilateral meetings with regional leaders
Subsequently, Facio met with the deputy executive director of the International Energy Agency, Mary Burce Warlick together with the undersecretary of the MIEM, Walter Verri, Cantero and the International Relations advisor, Celeste Elhordoy.
At the meeting they discussed the possibilities of cooperation in areas such as energy efficiency and green hydrogen and its derivatives, as well as the formation of Uruguay Innovation Hub, that bets on energy as a vector of innovation.
Then, the minister held a meeting with the director of Energy Policy of the National Energy Directorate of the European Union, Cristina Lobillo Borrero, with the focus on Green Hydrogen Roadmap.
Then he did the same with Juan José Gana Errazuriz, Vice President of Strategic Development HIF Global, leading global company in new fuels and that will disburse 4,000 million dollars for the development of renewable energies in Paysandu.
The second energy transition
At the same time, Verri participated in an event organized by the ECLAC, titled “The energy transition, a transformative vector of the development model of Latin America and the Caribbean”, where he detailed the “learning curve” that remained in Uruguay, after the first stage of the transition, such as territorial decentralization and new careers.
Now, within the framework of the second stage, he explained that the country “is committed to decarbonization, with pillars such as electromobility and green hydrogen and new fuels.”
Finally, the leader spoke at the event Renewable Energy Innovation Fund (REIF): Financial instrument to catalyze private investment, organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), where he spoke about the importance of private investments and the commitment of financial systems.
