The Prosecutor’s Office analyzes calling the president to testify Luis Lacalle Pou in the case for the delivery of the passport to Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset, derived from the statements of the former vice chancellor Carolina Ache about the intention to hide chats between hierarchs.

The Prosecutor for Economic and Complex Crimes, Alejandro Machado, at the head of the file, will begin next Monday with the proceedings on the alleged destruction of a notarial act that unleashed a political crisis that led to four resignations: that of the former chancellor Francisco Bustillo, the former Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber; his undersecretary, Guillermo Maciel; and the presidential communications advisor, Roberto Lafluf.

The Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson, Javier Benech, He referred to the situation and warned that “the general concept is that all the people who the headquarters understands can contribute to the cause declare,” although he specified that it is not defined who will have to appear.

The attorney general, Juan Gomez, He assured that, if this situation occurs, the president “will declare in writing, nothing else personally occurs to me,” as he confided after being quoted in the Parliament by the deputy Rodrigo Goñi (National Party).

For Gómez, the leaks do not arise from the Prosecutor’s Office

Gomez was summoned by Goñi to discuss the “leaks of information generated in criminal investigation processes”, in the midst of the questioned delivery of the passport to Marset. At a press conference, the lawyer stated: “We gave the answers highlighting the most absolute confidence we have in the tax teams in that they are not the ones who leak audios in some notorious cases.”

In this regard, the attorney general asked himself: “What would be the reason for the prosecutor’s teams to put their own investigations at risk?” In this reasoning, he insisted that “to question the credibility of the Prosecutor’s Office is to question the Rule of law”.

For all this, Gomez He stated: “We cannot allow that quietly when what we do is work to ensure that the rule of law prevails in our country.”
