Goalkeeper Tobias Lawal can accept his first invitation to the national team very calmly: Given the already fixed qualification, the last European Championship qualifier in Estonia on November 16th is probably just as much a test match as the friendly international match four days later in Vienna against Germany. For a black and white teammate, it’s about more: Ukraine’s team boss Sergei Rebrow called up Maksym Talowjerow for the first time – for the direct duel for the European Championship qualification against Italy on November 20th.
Ukraine is currently in second place in Group C with 13 points behind the English team, who have already qualified. The Italians are three points behind, but they can draw level with a win against North Macedonia (November 17th).
The Italians won the first leg in Milan 2-1. This means that Ukraine in exile in Leverkusen needs a win with a two-goal difference in order to get their ticket to the European Championship. For Italy, a draw or a defeat with a one-goal difference is enough because of the better goal difference.
