The mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosseannounced yesterday that he will launch his pre-candidacy for the presidential election in Uruguay next year for the order of more than 14 sectors within the Wide Front; In that sense, he has already agreed on a start date for the campaign and announced that he will continue in his position until March.
This Friday, at an event at Club Cordón, the only speaker will be Carolina Cosse and under the premise “Let’s go to the front with Carolina,” the community leader will announce her campaign as a presidential candidate, as reported to El Espectador radio. However, according to Cosse, the campaign begins on December 10 when the Congress of the Wide Front approve the applications of the pre-candidates.
With this, the mayor announced that in March she will ask for a license to be able to dedicate herself to her campaign, while her position will be occupied by the current general secretary of the commune, Mauricio Zunino. Meanwhile, he assured that he will be in the places that “the Broad Front asks him to be.”
This last statement has to do with the questions surrounding the nomination of the mayor who had promised to complete the 5 years of her mandate in the Uruguayan capital. However, more than 14 sectors within the main opposition force asked her to run as a pre-candidate. Among the sectors, there is New Spacehe People’s Victory Party, Head on and Big house.
One more decision to make
In addition to finishing announcing her campaign, the mayor still has to determine what her position is regarding the plebiscite proposed by the PIT-CNT regarding the annulment of the social security reform law. Several of the sectors that support it have already shown themselves in favor of the political move but still cosse has not spoken.
The mayor had assured that she would make her decision public after October 14 when the Wide Front met to decide their position. Orsi will leave the Mayor’s office in 2024
For his part, Orsi, who for now is a favorite in the polls and has already confirmed that he will seek to be the presidential candidate for the Broad Front, announced that he will leave his position at the beginning of 2024 to devote himself fully to the electoral campaign, of which he is finalizing the details.
Although he said he did not have an exact date to step aside in the Municipality of Canelones, he assured that it will be days after the Congress of the Broad Front, in December, in which the pre-candidacies will be approved. “I imagine that next year we will no longer be there,” said Orsi, who added that “it will be January or February“the moment in which he presents his resignation from the position he currently holds.
“The idea that I am here (in the mayor’s office) until December to go to that other responsibility (the electoral campaign), and then we will see how the story continues,” he pointed out in this regard.
Orsi indicated that in the remainder of his departmental administration he will focus on the execution of pending tasks at the level of architecture, infrastructure and social works.
