Steyr spin-off impresses with its maintenance-free filter

“We are on our way to revolutionizing the way air filtration is done today and in the future.” Filter System Steyr GmbH (FSS), based in Steyrer Berggasse, provides this self-confident description on the homepage of its website. “Designed for sustainability, longer life, improved airflow and more, our filter is capable of overcoming obstacles that traditional filters cannot.”

In practice, this means that FSS has developed a particle filter that does not need to be maintained or replaced. Solid particles smaller than one micron can be filtered without clogging the filter. This means there is no more waste and the increasing fine dust pollution is counteracted. Areas of application for this innovative filter solution from Steyr can be found in the automotive industry, medicine, industry, air conditioning and in public areas.

At the Upper Austrian State Prize for Innovation, which has been honoring outstanding developments by local companies for 30 years and for which there were 89 submissions this year, FSS now won in the “Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises” category. In addition to the winner’s check of 4,000 euros for the Steyr-based company’s maintenance-free filter systems, there was also a nomination for the Austria-wide special “Econovius” prize for innovative SMEs.

FSS is a spin-off of the software specialist ESS (Engineering Software Steyr), founded in 2015 by Martin Schifko. It is a manufacturer of state-of-the-art hybrid CFD/CSD software and specialists in automating the pre-processing step of networking.
