It shouldn’t be a Garden City 3 and certainly not just one “Residential complex”. What will happen instead on Puchenau’s last large development area on Großambergstrasse is still unclear. “Our starting point is a white sheet of paper”says Robert Oberleitner, managing director of Neue Heimat. The non-profit housing developer has close ties to Puchenau and, after Garden City 1 and 2, will now also be the one “New neighborhood” – that’s the working title – develop.
Local people should have a say
But in addition to architects, traffic planners, the municipal administration and other experts, the local population should be involved. For this purpose, the municipality organizes a so-called charrette process. Workshops will take place at Puchenau Castle from November 20th to 24th, where anyone interested can submit their ideas, objections and concerns. Several scenarios are developed together, which serve as the basis for a corresponding development plan. “We want to involve the population as much as possible and transparently”says Mayor Friedrich Geyrhofer (VP). This not only promotes a feeling of community and cohesion, but also helps ensure that decisions are made that are in the best interests of everyone.
Gradual development
The development area is located on Großambergstrasse and covers a total of almost 40,000 m2 of agricultural land, which has been designated as building development land for 30 years. Neue Heimat has a purchase option for around half. However, development will take place gradually.
Ecological and affordable living
Even though discussions at the workshops are open-ended, the Linz architect Andreas Kleboth, who leads the charrette process, presents some guidelines. The new district should be built to conserve resources, be as energy self-sufficient as possible and offer affordable housing. There should also be added value for those from Puchenau who already live there, for example by being able to use car sharing offers or benefit from a possible connection to the district heating network. In any case, the district should be innovative and special. “You should be able to develop a certain sense of pride because you live in a unique project”says Kleboth.
Information event on October 14th
An information event on December 14th at 7 p.m. in the Buchensaal will reveal exactly how the workshops work. The results will then be presented to the public on December 7th. It could be another three to five years before the first construction work begins.
