At around 7 p.m., the Floridsdorf city police command was alerted because the suspect was said to have attacked other people with the weapon on the street.
Based on the description, the 61-year-old Austrian citizen was quickly located and stopped by police officers; the machete was later found in bushes near a bus stop, police reported on Sunday. According to a 34-year-old coffee house owner, the suspect entered his restaurant and suddenly pulled out the machete while cursing wildly. The 34-year-old was then attacked with it and had to dodge several times to avoid being hit.
After the suspect threatened to kill him, he left the restaurant in the direction of a tram station, where he threatened other people with the machete. The 61-year-old suspect was temporarily arrested on suspicion of dangerous threats; he did not admit to the allegations during questioning.
