The 25-year-old from the Kirchdorf district and the 22-year-old from Linz opened the locks on two containers in which pyrotechnics are stored on Saturday evening using bolt cutters that they had brought with them. When the alarm system went off, they fled in their car to a nearby company and watched what was happening from a distance. When nothing had happened after 15 minutes, they returned to the crime scene and removed various pyrotechnic items from the containers.
Just at that moment, the manager, who had been notified by the alarm, arrived and blocked the duo’s escape route with his car. While the 61-year-old from the Linz-Land district called the police, the two suspects returned the previously stolen goods to the containers. During their interrogation, they confessed and stated that their motive was that they could not have afforded the fireworks for New Year’s Eve. They will be reported, the police announced on Sunday evening.
