As the fire department announced on Sunday, the car was thrown into a meadow due to the impact on the unguarded level crossing in Graschuh near Stainz and the handlebar was trapped. The rescue was carried out by the Stallhof, Stainz, Rossegg and Rassach weirs using hydraulic rescue equipment. The person was taken to the hospital.
The accident happened around 2:15 p.m. at the unbarred level crossing on the municipal road in the Graschuh district in the municipality of Stainz (Deutschlandsberg district). The train was coming from the direction of Stainz, the car was hit on the side by the steam locomotive of the narrow-gauge railway and thrown away.
Fire department on a large scale
The driver in the deformed car was accessible and fortunately not trapped and was rescued by around 60 emergency services. The train driver and the passengers who were on the local train were uninjured in the collision. After the accident was recorded by the police, the bottle train was able to continue its journey.
The Bottle Train is a museum railway that opened as a passenger and freight line in 1892 between Stainz and Preding-Wieseldorf. Its route is now just over eleven kilometers long and once served as a feeder to the Wieser Bahn of the Graz-Köflacher Bahn (GKB). Today it is owned by the municipality of Stainz as a museum railway with tourist operations.
