A Jewish religious school in the Canadian city of Montreal that had been the target of gunfire a few days ago was attacked again yesterday, although no one was injured, the municipal police reported, in a context of tensions linked to the current conflict in the Middle East.

“Around 5 o’clock (7 o’clock in Argentina) several calls were received to 911 (emergency telephone number) about shots heard by citizens,” said police spokesperson Véronique Dubuc about that incident in that city in the French-speaking province of Quebec.

The police officers confirmed the impact of “projectiles on the façade” of the school and also found bullet casings on the floor, the official said and confirmed that “no one” was inside the school at the time of the attack. Witnesses said they saw a vehicle flee “quickly” after the shots were fired, she added.

That establishment is one of two Jewish schools in Montreal that were targeted by gunfire on Thursday night, causing commotion in Quebec.

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau; The Prime Minister of Quebec, François Legault, and the Mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante, condemned this act of violence and asked the population for calm.

Also in Quebec last week, two Molotov cocktails were thrown at a synagogue, slightly damaging the building without causing any injuries.

At Concordia University, two groups of students who called themselves pro-Israel and another pro-Palestinian clashed on Wednesday, resulting in three injuries, according to the institution. Police arrested a woman for physical “assault.”

This new attack on a Jewish school in Quebec came at a time when many countries, particularly in Europe, are facing a resurgence of anti-Semitic acts since the war between Israel and Hamas began on October 7.
