The 81-year-old was first admitted to the Santo Spirito Hospital and then transferred to the San Camillo Hospital in Rome, as Roman media reported. However, it was initially difficult to establish the identity of the man who had lost contact with his travel group. The 81-year-old had no papers with him and could not speak because of the stroke. Therefore, the hospital’s medical staff contacted the police and asked for help in finding relatives or friends. The tourist couldn’t even write his own name, but he managed to indicate his place of residence in Austria. The police then contacted the Vatican to obtain the tourist’s first and last name.
After the police found the hotel where the Austrian was staying, they managed to reach the leader of the tour group, who had lost contact with the man. In the meantime, the tourist’s health improved and he was released from the hospital. There was initially no further information about the Austrian’s exact origins.
