A 48-year-old was sentenced to eleven years in prison in February 2022 for participating in a murder attack in Vienna-Ottakring. In the early morning of November 20, 2018, a man was knocked down and critically injured with an elongated tool in Hippgasse. The defendant was subsequently suspected of having paid the perpetrator a fee of 10,000 euros.
Due to new evidence that the 48-year-old man may have been deliberately falsely incriminated by the mastermind of the murder plot, a retrial was approved and the man was released from custody in May 2022. Two witnesses claimed that one of the masterminds had confessed to them that he had dragged the 48-year-old into the matter out of revenge.
As the investigations into the November 2018 attack revealed, the former father-in-law of the critically injured man is said to have ordered the attack. For this purpose he was looking for a contract killer.
Process postponed
In the afternoon, the man who was identified as the direct perpetrator in connection with the murder plot took the witness stand. He surprised everyone by saying that the defendant had “nothing to do with the matter.” He himself is also “innocent” and is now also seeking a retrial: He knows the real perpetrator, said the man, holding up documents. It is a Bosnian man who has since been released from prison.
Following this development, a request for evidence from the public prosecutor to call another witness was granted. The hearing was therefore postponed to January 9th.
