The new police headquarters on Gruberstrasse not only coordinates around 600 operations a day, it also has access to the Linz traffic light headquarters in order to have an overview of the city’s current traffic situation.

It has a specially secured access right; in the event of an emergency, a “green wave” can be activated at the traffic lights in the control center in order to ensure quick and safe access for emergency vehicles, especially when driving from city entrances or motorway exits to hospitals. The operations manager is in contact with a police pilot vehicle, which protects and accompanies the rescue trip. After the passage, the systems are switched back to normal operation.

“The new technology is impressive and incredibly valuable because it means that emergency vehicles can not only get to the scene more quickly, but also safer. And ultimately everyone benefits from this,” says Vice Mayor Martin Hajart (VP) impressed after a local inspection

The plan is now to train the police officers on duty and inform the rescue workers. The final test with one of the main operational routes from the Linz city highway A7 to the accident hospital (UKH) was carried out personally in real time by Hajart after a short explanation thanks to the intuitive user interface. During the test circuit, the police vehicle was able to successfully drive through all four affected traffic lights during the emergency operation without delay and was at the UKH within a very short time.
