The Capital of Culture year brings the Salzkammergut a public transport offensive

In 2024 there will be more trains and buses with many late services and a new call taxi system.

A European “Capital of Culture” with more than 300 events taking place in 23 municipalities over almost 2000 square kilometers – that will be a traffic challenge. Particularly because the organizers announced from the start that every single event would be accessible by public transport.
But the Upper Austrian Transport Association and tourism experts in the Salzkammergut have put together a public transport package that is worth seeing.

The new Salzkammergut shuttle, a call taxi system based on the tried and tested Traunstein taxi, connects the transport hubs with the peripheral event locations. It runs on 21 routes daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at very moderate prices (six euros for adults).

The Leisure ticket Upper Austria, a family day ticket for the entire state, will be reduced from 24.90 euros to 19.90 euros in 2024. It also applies in the Styrian and Salzburg parts of the Salzkammergut. It also grants a 50 percent discount on the Salzkammergut shuttle and is valid until 3 a.m. the following day.

On the Salzkammergutbahn ÖBB is expanding its offering with a timetable change on December 10th, especially in the evening. The last train from Gmunden towards Bad Ischl leaves at 11:23 p.m. The last train heading north leaves Bad Ischl at 9:53 p.m. At around 11 p.m. there is another bus heading towards Gmunden and Laakirchen. Additional trains will be introduced between Attnang-Puchheim and Stainach-Irdning on weekends.

Also the offer on the Kammererbahn is expanded. The last train to Kammer-Schörfling leaves Vöcklabruck at 10:12 p.m. In the other direction, the last train leaves at 11:33 p.m.

On the Almtalbahn An additional pair of trains will be introduced in the evening. Departure from Grünau is at 8:07 p.m. and from Wels at 10:50 p.m.

Also the Lambach-Vorchdorf local railway receives additional connections. This will close gaps in the morning and improve connections to other rail lines, especially on Sundays and public holidays.

The Regional bus routes are also better coordinated with the railway lines. In addition to the late bus between Bad Ischl and Laakirchen (line 507) mentioned above, there will also be a late bus between St. Wolfgang and Bad Ischl (departure at 8:58 p.m.). Line 533/534 between Gmunden and Almtal will also be improved.

As already reported, arise along the Traunsee tram-Line between Gmunden and Vorchdorf currently has additional Park & ​​Ride facilities. They offer space for 155 cars and are intended to make it easier for drivers to switch to the train. (ebra)
