The decision was made because of the risk of committing a crime, said state court spokeswoman Birgit Fink. The public prosecutor and defense declared that they would waive their right to appeal. The suspect continues to remain silent, according to the Innsbruck public prosecutor’s office. The motive therefore remains unclear. The police interview was broken off after the suspect was arrested. It was said that the local also refused to sign the interrogation protocol.

The 54-year-old crime victim was found lifeless with stab wounds to the neck in the suspect’s apartment. The crime is said to have occurred in the course of an argument with a kitchen knife; the two men knew each other. According to police, the suspect was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
