Gymnasium remains closed: Parents of students upset

In March of this year, the structural defects and damage to the roof structure became known and, as reported, the gymnasium of the newly built elementary school had to be closed for safety reasons. The quick response was followed by a long wait for the deficiencies to be rectified. The gym is still not usable, something worried parents have little understanding for.

The responsible city councilor Dietmar Prammer (SP) can understand the anger about the delay, but sees no alternative to closing the gym until the end of November. Originally, the gymnasium was supposed to be available to children and teaching staff again at the beginning of November.

However, a core drilling during the work revealed that “the reinforcement of some concrete parts did not meet the static requirements,” explains Prammer. The result would be additional measures that would delay the schedule again.

“In order to ensure that everything meets the safety requirements, the construction work will continue for a little longer,” Prammer asks those affected to understand. The Volkshaus is still being offered as a replacement accommodation, and transport from the school there will be organized by a bus company.

No adequate gymnastics lessons

The parents of the elementary school students are still annoyed about these delays, which not only would not allow the children to have adequate gymnastics lessons for almost nine months, but also numerous Pichlingen sports clubs would be affected by the gym closure.

An anonymous letter “signed” by concerned parents and available to the OÖN also states that suggestions such as using a meadow adjacent to the school as an exercise area in the warm season were not implemented by those responsible . Their verdict: City politics and the Linz magistrate had “failed miserably”, meaning the children were unable to move or moved less for half a year. In any case, we are a long way from the “often desired daily gym class”.
