The electoral rally is launched this weekend

Less than a year before the general elections in Uruguay, the main names for the pre-candidacies of the matches are beginning to be confirmed, beyond the previous announcements and almost obvious projections. This weekend, the Wide Front will confirm the four candidates who will compete to head the left list, and Alvaro Delgado will make the decision on whether or not to accept the nationalist pre-candidacy.

There are 345 days left until Uruguay Choose who will be your next president or your first president. But before citizens put their ballots in the polls, the different political parties will have to settle their internal and previously choose who, among their pre-candidates, will be the one who finally represents them in the general elections.

In this sense, some sectors already have defined – some, if not all – the names for the pre-candidacies, as is the case of the Colorado Party. However, others are beginning to confirm these days, even though the pre-candidates were already announced “by word of mouth” or by internal logic.

One of them will be the secretary of the Presidency, Alvaro Delgado, who announced that this Saturday he will make the decision whether or not to accept the pre-candidacy for his space within the National Party, Fresh Air. For the nationalist leader, it is one of the “most difficult” and “most important” decisions of his life.

His position – which the majority of his co-religionists expect to be positive at the top of the list and the various surveys of public opinion already take it for granted – will be made public within the framework of the Congress of the sector founded by the president Luis Lacalle Pou. Meanwhile, he already announced that the formula should be equal and that the Multicolor Coalition It is going to appear “together” in an eventual runoff, because “it is here to stay.” “There is going to be a second coalition government”Delgado stated.

In addition to Delgado, Defense Minister Javier García will also compete in the nationalist internal race. There are still no definitions about Vice President Beatriz Argimón.

If the pre-candidacy is accepted, the Secretary of the Presidency would compete directly with Laura Raffo, that represents blacksmithing; the senator Jorge Gandini; and the Minister of National Defense Javier García.

According to the latest survey of Consulting Teams, Delgado leads the nationalist vote intention with 37%, while Raffo is second with 29%. The senator Juan Sartori and the vice president Beatriz Argimón, Although they have not yet confirmed their participation in the internal elections, they are names that also resonate in the white environment.

The official internal training of the Broad Front begins

For its part, the left coalition has been considering names for some time, and although its pre-candidacies have already been confirmed by different spaces and even the competitors themselves, it was only this Saturday that Wide Front will ratify Yamandú Orsi, Carolina Cosse, Andrés Lima and Mario Bergara as pre-candidates.

The authorization will take place in the National Plenary at the departmental headquarters of Maldonado, but they will only be presented in the Tabaré Vázquez Congress which will take place on December 10. In both cases, later events will be held – the one on Saturday in Maldonado and the one in December in Montevideo-, where the three mayors and the senator will be, already confirmed as the competitors of the internal Broad Front.

The pre-candidacies are not surprising since they had all been pre-announced by the same leaders. In the case of Orsi, in front of the Canelones Municipality and the one who measures the best in the polls so far, even confirmed when he would step aside from his public role to dedicate himself to the campaign.

Andrés Lima, for his part, is the worst positioned on the internal left, behind Bergara —who received direct support from Danilo Astori, whose recent death put his contribution and the legacy he may have left on the political level at the center of the discussion—; and of cosse, who was going to announce his campaign last Friday at an event in the capital – where he directs the mayor’s office – which was suspended due to the death of the founder of the Broad Front.
