For transport officer Vice Mayor Martin Hajart (VP), the information event on the transport concept for the east of Linz was “very positive”. 80 to 100 residents came to the OÖNachrichten Forum in the Promenade Galleries on Monday.
Public transport is underrepresented
During this presentation, the current situation was first shown – from traffic counts, flights and analyzes – and then the problem areas and proposed solutions were discussed. And it turned out that public transport in particular is underrepresented in the Kaplanhof/Hafenviertel. “This is also proof that a lot of things have been missed in previous years,” says Deputy Mayor Hajart.
Increase in traffic due to construction projects
After a preliminary survey, around 500 problem areas were identified between Gruberstrasse and the harbor, such as the Gallanderstrasse/Hafenstrasse intersection area and Petzoldstrasse, where there was primarily an increase in car traffic due to completed or yet to be built projects such as the Blue and White Stadium Quadrill, the new MIC location, the new future headquarters of Apple as well as the XXXLutz and expansions at Dynatrace and the ETECH Center. “All of these construction projects make it clear that traffic in the east of Linz needs to be rethought,” says Hajart.
Spring concept
The participants were then able to submit their own suggestions. The next step will now be to have the experts analyze the problem areas; initial considerations have already been made. A separate information event is planned for businesses in the area. The finished transport concept should then be presented in the spring.
