The former mayor of Bad Ischl Hannes Heide (SPÖ) is running again in the European elections on June 9, 2024 in fifth place on the list of his federal party and therefore has a chance of retaining his place in the European Parliament.
A few weeks ago, the 57-year-old was presented by the SPÖ Upper Austria as their top candidate. At the federal party conference in Graz at the weekend, the delegates confirmed Heide’s candidacy in fifth place for the SPÖ with 96 percent approval.
Heide entered the EU Parliament for the first time after the 2019 election. At that time, the SPÖ received 23.9 percent of the vote and five mandates. Heide herself was happy about 12,455 preferential votes.
His party colleagues at home, including SPÖ district chairman and state parliament member Mario Haas and state party chairman Michael Lindner, have already pledged their support to the Bad Ischler in the election campaign.
Heide emphasizes the importance of the EU for regions like the Salzkammergut. He points to investments in infrastructure, environmental protection and business support. “Cities and regions need a strong, social and democratic Europe,” said the candidate.
