The deadline for federal workers to get vaccinated or face suspension or firing was Dec. 22.
The White House reported that 96.5% of the federal workforce of 3.5 million employees, the largest in the United States, has already complied with the advice.
A spokesman for the Office of Management and Budget indicated that the deadline “was not a cliff and that our goal is to protect workers, not penalize anyone.”
“That is why we have encouraged agencies to continue the December education and counseling period for the small number of noncompliant employees and delay most suspensions and removals until the new year,” the spokesperson said.
“We are seeing a sharp increase in compliance and we believe this is the best approach to vaccinating more employees“he added.
Federal employees can apply for medical or religious exemptions in the United States to avoid immunization against Covd-19.
